Chasing the sounds of a vanishing city
It all began, as most of my bad ideas do, in the 1 of the moment. I was standing in a crowded station with my headphones on when I realised I could no longer hear the city at all: the rattle of old trams and the calls of market traders had been replaced by a uniform hum of traffic. I had worked as a sound engineer for ten years, yet I had never once 2 to record the place I lived in. That evening I quit my job and, by a 3 of luck, a local radio station offered me a small grant a week later. The project finally 4 off the ground in January. 5 to what I had feared, people were generous with their time and their memories. 6 had I switched off the recorder in one place than someone was pointing me towards another.
